Interactive environmental art

  Imagine:
  • A city street scene in which traffic and pedestrians slow down and speed up in response to ambient sounds

  • A flower garden blossoming when sunlight strikes a sensor
  • Ice forming on a virtual interior lake as a temperature sensor outside drops below freezing

TechnoFrolics can work with interested clients to transform their existing video footage into Spin Browser VE form, or develop new installation concepts.

TechnoFrolics' Spin Browser™ video explorer (VE) adds a new dimension to video-based art and entertainment by allowing uniquely fluid and interactive control over the progression of time within video sequences.

This liquid flow of time may be controlled by environmental parameters including light, sound, and temperature, or may be placed directly in the hands of the viewer through rugged and engaging user interfaces.

Whether you want a performance sculpture that may be "played" like a visual instrument, a lobby artwork whose appearance changes dynamically to mirror the seasons and time of day, or an entertainment kiosk that offers sports fans a way to review their favorite game highlights, the Spin Browser provides a unique and engaging solution.

The Spin Browser VE may be used to create audience-controlled foreground artworks and attractions, as well as environmentally controlled background elements.

A few specific installation possibilities are provided below.

Performance sculpture

Audiences may:

  • "Play" the blooming of a rose with a drumpad

  • Stroke night into day and back to night, with hands on a sensor pad

  • Sing to an artwork and watch it evolve

Sports

The Spin Browser VE offers sports fans the perfect way to explore their favorite plays and players. A few installation ideas include:
  • A "Spin Through Time" installation containing both historic and modern sports footage, engaging fans in an intimate, interactive exploration of a game's history and players over the years.
  • A "Catch the Moment" installation, providing a collection of the most famous plays from various sports, and letting users explore them in detail at their own pace
  • With custom-designed additions, a "Freeze the Moment" installation could let users browse through video sequences, create a "snapshot" of their favorite instant, and purchase a souvenir print-out
