Behavior of monitors/screens during 120VAC off/on cycle

(Last updated by TechnoFrolics 12/19/07. Note that the below does not cover monitors that may be turned on in the morning by, for example, a pre-programmed infrared remote.)

Monitors that behave exactly as one would hope (i.e., they turn back on when 120VAC power is applied without human intervention).

  1. CHIMEI CMV 221D-NBC Black 22" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor, 1680 x 1050, 3 year warrantee, $239.99 from http://www.newegg.com. (Tested by TechnoFrolics 2007.)

  2. From Robert ("Boob") Rayle at the Museum of Science, Boston: "We use either NEC or Samsung - most recently we've been using Samsung 740BX and 940BX. So far for us, if the LCD has that master rocker on/off switch and it's on, then when the front soft-touch switch is on and power killed, it comes back on when power is restored." (Untested by TechnoFrolics directly.)

  3. Paul DeCamp at Quatrefoil confirms that the Westinghouse 20" Flat-Panel LCD Monitor Model: L2046NV functions in the desired manner. (Untested by TechnoFrolics directly.)

Monitors that behave as desired with addition of custom mechanical fixture that holds power button in.
