Directions for connecting the NetCam SC 5MP HD camera to Spin Browser VE demo unit. Setup is straightforward and should take no more than 10 minutes.
(Please be sure to locate the camera in a secure location in order to keep it safe.)

Packing list
- USB > Ethernet adapter.
- Timed HASP USB key (in some cases, not all).
- Stardot NetCam SC5 IP camera with:
- Tamron 4-12mm C mount lens and adapter ring. (Certain configurations may employ alternative lens instead.)
- Power Over Ethernet (POE) supply, with IEC cable.
- 10' Cat6 RJ45 crossover cable. (Length may vary.)
- ~14' Cat6 RJ45 patch cable. (Length may vary.)
- GorrillaPod flexible tripod.
Setup directions
IMPORTANT: Be sure to note the labels on the Power Over Ethernet (POE) power injector, so you do not accidentally plug the powered network cable into the computer! (If the computer has a well designed ethernet port, great, but if not, such incorrect wiring could instantly destroy the computer...)
- Connect the RJ45 Ethernet crossover cable between the computer's motherboard (not USB converter) RJ45 network port and the port of the POE device labeled "To Computer".
- Connect the RJ45 Ethernet straight-wired cable between the camera and the port of the POE device labeled "!!!To Camera Only!!!".
- Plug in the POE 48VDC power injector to 120VAC power using the supplied stub-length IEC 3 prong cable.
- Provide power to the computer and boot it up.
- Description of the click-able icons located at the top of the laptop screen:
- The leftmost icon with the Spin Browser VE dial runs the application itself. (Don't double click this icon prior to attaching and powering the camera.)
- The middle icon quickly erases all captured content. (Respond with "Yes" to any initial command screen queries warning about complete file set deletion - assuming you indeed want to delete the captured data!)
- Other icons, which may or may not be present depending on the particular installation:
- A right-most icon which not only erases all captured content, but completely initializes and recreates the capture file set. This should be done if you receive an error message indicating the previous program instance was terminated prematurely and/or the file set became corrupted. This will take several tens of minutes to complete. (Respond with "Yes" to any initial command screen queries warning about complete file set deletion - assuming you indeed want to delete the captured data!)
- A link to the Spin Browser VE application folder within which many configuration settings may be changed. (Please contact TechnoFrolics before changing any!)
- Lens adjustment:
- Larger apertures will allow for shorter exposure times, faster frame rates, less blurring, etc. The only negative to large apertures is less depth of field and slightly more fuzzy images overall. We recommend having the aperture between 50% and 100% open, where for most demo evaluation applications, closer to 100% will make sense.
- The lens is "vari-focal" in design. This means it is a "zoom" lens you can adjust, but after adjusting will need to be re-focused.
- The included tripod is highly adaptable and can be used on a tabletop, grab onto pipes on the ceiling, etc. Just be sure if you hang the camera, it is secure and does not fall!
- Avoid pointing the camera directly into the sun.
- Should it make sense for TechnoFrolics to log on remotely (likely), you may utilize the included USB>Ethernet adapter to connect the computer to your network - or connect wirelessly. If a laptop from TechnoFrolics is being used for capture, it will already have the remote access program Logmein installed.
Runtime notes
- Content will be captured at 1296 x 960 pixel resolution. (Resolution could differ depending on demo configuration details.)
- Capture file set length and frame rate will depend on demo configuration details. Whatever its length, after that time period is exceeded, capture will loop, with "head eating its tail". Also, typically demos are configured to capture at higher frame rates in the recent past (to allow smoother motion during perusal) and lower frame rates in the further past (to allow capturing large time spans without overflowing the small demo unit drive). Example demo configurations include:
- 6 hours at 1fps and 240 hours at 1 frame per minute.
- The above is simply what makes sense for a demo. In a real installation, the system can handle:
- A wide range of frame rates, from 1 frame per day, to 500 frames per second in HD.
- Enormous data sets, up to terabytes in size.
- Year-long captures with automated backups.
- Simultaneous captures from multiple cameras, audio capture synchronized to video, realtime chroma-keying, and more.
- Fun capture ideas to try:
- A sunrise, sunset, and/or traffic outside your building.
- Food cooking.
- An analog clock with a candle burning down in front of it. (Of course take care not to start a fire!)
- The below ideas, while better suited to a higher frame rate camera, can still work in bright light (so exposure time is short):
- Eating (if you can emotionally handle going in reverse... :-)
- Making funny faces.
- Sketching on a pad - it is really fun going backwards and forwards.
Packing up for departure
- If the captured content contains any "sensitive" imagery (e.g., your proprietary client projects, someone mooning the camera, or the like), you may wish to delete it using the erase icon described above under "Setup directions".
- Please be sure that all cables and components are present and secure, including the cap (or foam) protecting the lens.
- Be sure the camera and lens are securely protected in lots of bubblewrap. (Please apply shrink-wrap over the bubblewrap, as otherwise vibration during shipping will likely cause the camera to separate from its protective layer...)
